Her 42- year- old employer from Tajikistan, Joudah told the court that she had recruited the 22- year- old housemaid Evelin from a labour supply office in Dubai. Sometime after she started working, the employer noticed that some money was missing from her wallet. Her husband’s mobile phone also went missing later.

After a few months, her husband also began to suspect the housemaid for theft, she said. One day they asked the maid to show her wallet. When she opened the wallet, they found Dh 2,900, euro 670, $1200 and £10 in her possession.

The theft was reported to the police who searched her room and recovered the stolen phone of the employer’s daughter and some receipts of money transfers made to her home country.

During the interrogation, the maid said that her grandmother was sending her money, but later she confessed to the crime.
