The Association said that the promulgation of the law strengthens the positive role played by Their Highnesses the Shaikhs and leaders of the country in protecting rights of children to live in safety and peace.

The new law, approved by the Cabinet, includes 72 articles which cover all children’s rights guaranteed by international conventions, the rules of Islamic Shariah and the principles of the Emirati Constitution.

The Children Affairs Committee chairman at the Association Abdul Rahman Ghanem said that the decision to name the law as “Wadima’s Law” was a sincere tribute to the girl.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, had instructed that the law should be known as ‘Wadima’s Law,’ after the eight-year old Emirati girl who was recently killed by her father, a crime that shocked the Emirati society.
