Eight aspiring filmmakers have been picked for a script writing programme as part of the upcoming Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
The programme, created by Image Nation Abu Dhabi, in partnership with Dubai Film Market (DFM), the industry arm of DIFF, will see the winner receive Dh100,000 to produce a feature film.
All participants will also attend a coaching session to learn how to pitch a story during the Dec. 7-14 DIFF. Four scripts will then be shortlisted and selected to participate in the DFM, where film writers will pitch their projects to a panel of industry professionals.
This year's first batch of participants includes award-winning amateur filmmakers.
"I hope Arab Film Studio will finally be the chance for me to learn how to write the kind of scripts that I have always wanted to write, how to correctly manage my thoughts, and help me to gain confidence in my abilities," said Afnan Al Qasimi, a 23 years old student, who won a Best Script Award from the New York Film Academy.
The course, which starts this August and lasts five months, will include three weeks of intensive workshops focusing on all aspects of script writing - from story concept to character developing. This will be followed by a three-month assignment, where participants will have to write a short film script using the skills learnt in the workshops.
