Imam of Holy Kaaba gets Islamic Personality Award

DUBAI — World-renowned Islamic scholar Dr Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz Al Sudais has been selected for the 9th Islamic Personality Award of Dubai International Holy Quran Award (Dihqa).

Addressing a Press conference at Dihqa headquarters here yesterday Dr Saeed Hareb, Vice-Chairman of Dihqa, said that Dr Sudais is known as the Imam of the Holy Kaaba for 22 years and he is a very influential personality in the Muslim community throughout the world. The recordings of his recitation of the Holy Quran are famous with the pilgrims, he added.

Dr Al Sudais is a very well known personality with his simplicity, divinity and good character. Born in 1961 in Qusim area of Saudi Arabia, Dr Al Sudais got his degree in Islamic Shariah from Riyadh University in 1983 and was appointed as a lecturer of Islamic Fundamental Knowledge in the same university immediately after completing his study. He got his masters degree in Islamic Fundamentals from the College of Shariah of Imam Mohammed bin Saud Islamic University in 1987 and his Ph.D in Islamic Shariah from Ummul Qura University in 1995 while he worked in the same university as an associate professor after completing his service in Riyadh University.

World-renowned scholars like late Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Baz and Dr Saleh Fawzan were among his teachers. To Dr Al Sudais' credit are many publications on Islamic Shariah, fundamentalism in Islamic Shariah and Usool Fiqh.
