In Pictures: The ‘wild’ side of Arabia

With excellent weather prevailing in the UAE, for another two days at least, Arabia’s Wildlife Centre, located at Sharjah Desert Park, seems ideal for a perfect day out. Inaugurated in September 1999, it is the only ‘zoo’ in Arabia showcasing all the animals that are part of the natural fauna of the Arabian Peninsula.

The facility, that boasts of the world’s largest collection of Arabian wildlife, has been divided into various sections, each dedicated to a group of species including reptiles, invertebrates, birds, nocturnal animals, ungulates and large carnivores.

A large walk-through enclosure allows you to get a closer look at the birds and other smaller animals and soon you will find entering a large cage admiring the larger mammals who
roam freely in the natural surroundings. KT senior photographer M. Sajjad captures some ‘wild’ shots of the venomous viper, endangered Arabian Leopard and others and discovers life after dark in the nocturnal display house at the centre. - Sajjad@khaleejtimes.com
