Mohammed Ali, a resident of Nakheel in RAK said motorists deliberately park their vehicles in the non-parking areas which hinders traffic flow.

He said: Despite the traffic laws that prohibit motorists from leaving their vehicles in undesignated parking areas along the road, motorists continue to flout the rules.

“I would not mind parking in non-parking areas if they were not affecting other road users but I feel so disgusted spending a lot of time in traffic jams caused by such motorists,” added Ali.

Another resident Ahmed Al Habsi, a UAE national, said: “Although there has been an increase in the number of vehicles in RAK due to the growing population, there would not be unnecessary traffic jams in some areas if motorists just followed the rules.”

He called the Traffic and Licensing Department in Ras Al Khaimah to enforce stricter rules against illegal parking and to impose hefty penalties.

According to the recent statement issued by the RAK Traffic and Licensing Department, around 3,855 violations have been recorded in this connection since January 2008.
