An art exhibition that brings together the works of four Indian artists will start on Monday. The event, Art at India House, will feature the works of G. Subramanian, Suresh Muthukulam, K.R. Santhanakrishnan and Devi Seetharam.
The initiative, which is supported by the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, will provide an opportunity for the guests to meet and interact with the artists. The exhibition will be a confluence of distinct styles and themes.
The Indian Ambassador to the UAE, T. P. Seetharam, said: "We are happy that India House will be host to these talented artists and hope that they will receive an encouraging response from art lovers in the UAE, prompting their creativity to flourish even more."
Known for his mixed media meditations, G. Subramanian is inspired by mythology and childhood memories. Having gone through personal tragedy early in life, Subramanian's art is a sublimation of his profound grief at losing his daughter, who comes as a recurring theme in his works.
Suresh Muthukulam is an accomplished muralist and painter whose art is a fusion of contemporary aesthetics and traditional Kerala style of painting. His works have gained national and global recognition and are displayed in numerous collections, including the Vatican Museum, National Gandhi Museum and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai.
K.R. Santhanakrishnan is the recipient of 'Ovia Nunkalai Kuzhu', a state award from the Tamil Nadu and Lalit Kala Academy in Chennai, as well as an appreciation award from the Directorate of Art and Culture. His perception that peoples' culture and heritage find their ultimate expression in their dwelling spaces translates to a unique series of paintings that depict doors and doorways. His past exhibitions in the region have received excellent responses from art enthusiasts.
Devi Seetharam's Anonymity series, using images of abayas to celebrate the strength and presence of Emirati women, is highly popular in the region. She believes that clothing carries the 'message of a civilisation', with tradition, religion, culture and craft made tangible in the clothing of people, which is represented in her art.
The exhibition will be held at India House, the official residence of the Ambassador of India in Abu Dhabi, which has hosted such exhibitions in the past. The exhibition starts at 6pm on November 30, and is up for viewing by appointment from December 1 to 3.
