In a tragic incident, an Indian national, who was returning home after spending 35 years of his life in Al Ain, died at the Abu Dhabi airport lounge, holding his boarding pass in hand.
Shahul Hameed, 58, from Calicut, could not take his flight back home. He was waiting to be board the plane when he felt a shooting pain in his chest and passed away at the airport lounge on January 2.
According to details available from media and community sources, Hameed had obtained a boarding pass from Etihad Airways counter and was waiting in the lounge to be boarded on the flight to Calicut. Minutes before his flight he had severe pain in his chest and died on the spot.
His body was later shifted to the morgue of Shaikh Khalifa Hospital for procedural formalities. On January 5, his body was transported to Calicut, according to a community activist.
Shahul Hameed had spent 35 years in Al Ain where he was running a cafeteria. He wanted to be with his family in Kerala.
Offering condolences, Bawa Haji president of the Indian Islamic Centre in the capital said: "The news saddened me immensely. May Allah grant him eternal peace," he told Khaleej Times.
