Located on a sprawling 40-acre plot in the heart of the town at Domlur, the Rs230 million school will cater to students at a full capacity of 550, from the kindergarten to Grade 12, offering the flexibility of day schooling, week and full-term boarding options.
Lt. Gen. Arjun Ray, Chief Executive of the institution, told Khaleej Times in the capital yesterday that the objective of the school is to probe beyond learning, to draw from the multi-intelligence pool of skills and creativity of students to make them assume roles of social entrepreneurship.
Lt. Gen. Ray, who is on a visit to the UAE, accompanied by T.P. Vasanth, a founder-member of the school, said that the school that will follow the ICSC/ISC, based on the Geneva-based International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, will have a teacher-student ratio of one to ten, with the maximum number of students in a class restricted to just 20, right through from the K.G. to Class XII.
Initially, the school will accept 200 students on a first-come-first-serve basis, and so far 120 seats have already been filled up.
Lt. Gen. Ray, who is widely regarded as a soldier-scholar and who took volunteer retirement from the Indian Army to start 'Operations Sadbhavana', a socio-political strategy to win over alienated communities in Northern Kashmir, said that the Indus International School, located in the IT corridor of Bangalore with global connectivity, will provide for creativity learning.
A staff of 29 teachers has already been chosen from 3,183 applications received globally, he said.
Students will be given the option to pursue any second language of their choice, including foreign languages, where native language teachers will impart education.
The annual fee ranges between Rs200,000 and Rs300,000.
