The main aim behind the event was to raise awareness on the importance of following scientific and medical guidelines to reduce the chance of infection transmission at hospitals.

Dr Abdullah Ustadi, Head of the Central Infection Control Committee at the Dohms, in his speech at the closing ceremony pointed to the importance of this week’s activities which produced many positive outcomes. Light was thrown on the various hygiene guidelines required to be followed in order to reduce the rate of infection. Several scientific lectures, informing doctors, nurses and their families to about how to best protect themselves from infection were also held.

Dr Ustadi said that the infection control week which began last Saturday at various Dohms hospitals included many activities which ranged from educational lectures that focused on basic hygiene and hand-washing from the role of prevention in combating hospital-born infections. The activities also included distribution of booklets, pamphlets and brochures as well as products to combat infection.

A television programme on the best way to prevent infection was screened at all wards and sections of Rashid Hospital.

The closing ceremony ended with an honouring of individuals and companies that helped make the week a success.
