Wireless broadband speeds are improving with next generation of communication technology standards such as 2G, 3G and now 4G spectrums available. However, with the faster speeds comes a higher price tag and additional access fees. Combined with this are the cases of choked bandwidths resulting in restricting speeds and limitation of the overall service itself!

FreedomPop, a company headquartered in Los Angeles, US is the first wireless Internet service provider which promises to deliver 100 per cent 4G mobile broadband Internet access — that too for free!

The company was founded in 2011 by Stephen Stokols and Steven Sesar and supported by investors such as Skype’s founder Nikas Zennsom’s Atomico, DCM and Mangrove Capital and promises to provide wireless internet services in innovative path-breaking ways.

FreedomPop piggybacks itself on Clearwire’s 4G Wimax data network and targets to delight the US consumers with lightning speed Internet. The company offers to its customers 500Mb of free high speed internet — this comes at a time when globally the prices of wireless internet are on the upswing while access speeds are spiraling downwards. To sign up one needs to purchase a $39 dongle which once registered gives you the promised free access. Though higher capacity plans need to be purchased at nominal incremental prices, once can coolly rollover unused Wi-Fi at a paltry $3.50 per month!

FreedomPop intends to expand the service to include Sprint’s 4G LTE network in 2013 and is sure to revolutionise the Internet paradigm globally.

Gone will be the days when you will have to look for a Starbucks and spend on a coffee just to be able to access your urgent emails!
