DUBAI — At least 158 vehicles were found to have tyres with wrong specifications in a random technical check-up campaign carried out on different roads in Dubai last month. The campaign covered 702 cars, and only 483 of them passed the test and declared valid for driving, Lieutenant Bader Bu Samra, Acting Head of the External Services Section, has said.

The campaign resulted in 219 cars being declared as invalid for driving because of different types of technical shortcomings. Owners of vehicles which were declared technically invalid claimed that their cars were under repair, he said, adding that 49 cars were found with expired registration cards.

He said the random check was aimed at monitoring the performance of private companies assigned to carry out the technical check. "We are looking at maintaining quality of services at these stations and to ensure the safety of road-users," he said.
