Trivandrum: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Jacob Thomas embarrassed the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala by continuing his barbs against ministers even after he was served with a show cause notice over his open criticism of the government.
Thomas, who was removed as Commandant of Kerala's Fire and Rescue Services within two months of his posting, had locked horns with the state government saying that he was shunted out after he sought to implement safety regulations for high rise buildings and stone quarrying units.
Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson issued the notice on Thursday seeking his explanation about the charges he leveled personally against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala in an interview he gave to a television channel on Tuesday without prior permission of the government.
Undeterred by the notice, he told a function at Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam district on Thursday that it was difficult for honest officers to work in the current set up.
He pointed out the plight of an IAS officer who busted an online lottery racket to the tune of Rs2.5 billion.
