Iranian cultural night a big draw

DUBAI - The Iranian Business Council on Sunday hosted a well-attended Iranian cultural night featuring traditional Persian music and entertainment at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel.

The event, held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, was graced by Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, the President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Akbar Aminian, Consul General of Iran in Dubai; Abbas Bolurfrushan, President of Iranian Business Council; Nasser Hashempour, Member of the Board at the Iranian Business Council; prominent Iranian businessmen, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

Mr Hashempour organised a special session, "Iran and Globalisation for the Common Good". Professor Kamran Mofid, the founder-convenor of the annual international conference on `An Inter-faith Perspective on Globalisation for the Common Good'; Dr Raymond Hamden, Director, Comprehensive Medical Centre in Dubai and co-convenor of the international conference in Dubai; and Dr Ahmad Jalali were among the invited speakers of the event.

The topics included Globalisation for the Common Good, The Place of Iran in the New Global Community, and Ethics and Globalisation: an Oriental Approach.

Dr Mofid, in association with Dr Hamden, is seeking to establish The Centre for the Study of Globalisation for the Common Good.

It was in 2002 that Dr Mofid founded the annual international conference on `An Inter-faith Perspective on Globalisation for the Common Good'. The 2002 and 2003 conferences took place in Oxford and St. Petersburg, Russia, respectively. The 2005 conference will be in Nairobi and Kericho, Kenya, in association with Bhai Mohinder Singh Ji, Chairman of the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha, Birmingham, UK.

Dr Mofid has organised and convened major international conferences, including "Japan and the UK economy", "NAFTA and the EU", "Japan and the Global Economy", "Iran and the Emerging Global Order", "Forgiveness and Reconciliation" and the Ambassador's lecture series.
