DUBAI —The 31st General Assembly of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) opens at Grand Hyatt Hotel here today and runs for five days, organisers said.
The five-day long ISO Dubai 2008, is being held in Dubai and the Middle East for the first time since the inception of ISO in 1947. It is hosted by the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA).
More than 500 delegates from 157 ISO member countries are expected to attend the conference.
Development of standards, climate changes, water and energy efficiency, future sustainable buildings, smart and earthquake-resistant buildings, safety of high-rise buildings and best practices reducing harmful impact on the environment will be discussed in the assembly.
Announcing the event Dr Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and Water and Vice-President of ESMA, said, “The UAE is committed to adopt specifications, standards and best global practices,” he said.
