Hyderabad: The health condition of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, whose indefinite fast entered the sixth day on Monday, has further deteriorated with doctors stating that sugar levels and blood pressure had dropped significantly.
Jagan, as the YSRCP leader is referred to, has been on an indefinite fast in the coastal Andhra town of Guntur since Wednesday last, demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh, a promise the opposition party claims was made in the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2014, which facilitated bifurcation of the State for the creation of a separate Telangana state.
Doctors who conducted various tests on the fasting leader said his condition was serious since there was no food intake, leading to weight loss and increase in ketone levels. Party leaders, workers and followers thronged the venue throughout the day and expressed concern at his condition.
Jagan, addressing the media at the venue, accused AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of resorting to cheap politics by tampering with blood samples and using faulty glucometers which were not functioning properly. "The Telugu Desam Party government is misusing the medical fraternity to dilute the agitation for special status for Andhra Pradesh. The glucometers brought by the government doctors are indicating 88 mg while new glucometers are indicating 77 mg," he point out, and wondered why the doctors were not releasing the medical test results conducted on him.
The YSRCP president also took strong exception to the comments made by state ministers Kamineni Srinivas Rao and Pratipati Pulla Rao, who alleged that it was a sham fast undertaken by Jagan. A team of government doctors who conducted tests on Jagan said his condition was getting weaker by the day, and were particularly concerned with the ketone levels showing 3-plus.
