Two grand masters of music and poetry — ghazal singer Jagjit Singh and Oscar-winning lyricist Gulzar — are performing together for the first time on an international stage as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival today.
The coming together of these two legends is a rarity. Performing a unique jugalbandi of poetry and singing in a concert titled ‘Koi Baat Chale…’, the renowned artistes from India are all set to mesmerise music lovers with some soulful melodies at Shaikh Rashid Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre, from 8 pm to 11 pm, marking one of the key events on the last weekend of DSF 2011.
Padma Bhushan awardee Jagjit Singh, whose name is synonymous with ghazals, has won both critical acclaim and commercial success. He has played to sold-out concerts in over 40 countries, including the USA, the UK, Australia and South Africa to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
And Gulzar, is not only a writer but also a lyricist and a director with several hit songs and movies to his credit. Awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004, he also won the Oscar for the Best Original Song “Jai Ho”, written for movie Slumdog Millionaire.
Tickets for the concert are priced at Dh1,000, Dh500, Dh250 and Dh100. They can be bought online from www.boxofficeme.com or from Spinney’s (04 3510929) and Al Mansoor Audio Video (04 3970420) outlets.
