Trivandrum: The controversy over the conduct of local body elections in Kerala appears to have ended on Monday with the opposition parties agreeing to the Election Commission's proposal to postpone the election by few days.
The election due in October will now be held in November. State Election Commissioner K Sasidharan Nair said that the delay was on account of the need for conducting the polls to the newly formed 28 municipalities and Kannur Corporation.
Though the process for conducting the elections to the new urban bodies is complete, the block panchayats and gram panchayats within under their purview need to reorganized. Nair said that the commission will try to complete the process and conduct the election as early as possible.
