ABU DHABI - President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued in his capacity as the Ruler of Emirate of Abu Dhabi, a law regulating the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The law states that the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, will have a legal autonomous status and headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
The Council aims to develop the sports sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi through the development of clubs, associations and sports events by providing an integrated environment in all sports legislative, regulatory, technical, administrative and infrastructure aspects that respond to the requirements of the community, and provide opportunities for young people in various age groups from early ages to have professional access to hone their skills and talents in sports, and prepare them for participation in the local, regional and international competitions.
The law states that the Board members of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council will not be less than five nor more than 13, including the Chairman.
The Chairman of the Executive Council will issue a decision on appointment of the Board members and specifying their remunerations. The membership duration will be two years subject to renewal.
The Council will have a Secretary General, who will be appointed by the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. The Secretary General will oversee the daily work of the Council.
The law states that all the assets, rights and obligations of Abu Dhabi Sports Council established by the decision of the Chairman of Executive Council No. 16 for the year 2006, will be transferred to the Council. The staff and employees of the Council will retain the status of their previous jobs prior the issuance of this law.
