The projects have been carried out by the Department of Public Works (DPW) in Sharjah to develop the region and bring all governmental services to residents in the area.

Addressing a Press conference Mohammed bin Ya’rouf, Director of Regional Projects section in DPW, said several construction and maintenance projects in Khorfakkan city were 95 per cent complete.

“Constructing world class government buildings in Khorfakkan has become a must. Work in Sharjah Educational Centre in Al Jarida area, with a total cost of Dh14.5 million and external renovation works of female employees’ building witnessed remarkable progress.”

The Sharjah Educational Centre will add value to the educational system and will help develop national educational staff so as to cope with up-to-date educational requirements, he said. Shaded car parks are also under construction at the Sharjah University, in addition to other maintenance works in sports halls.

DPW has also maintained a number of government buildings, Khorfakkan Ladies’ Club, Cultural Centre, Bahithat Al Badyah Nursery and Youth Centre.

“DPW, since the end of last previous school year, started partial maintenance works of three sports halls in Al Nahwa, Al Khalil Bin Ahmed and Asia Bint Mozahim schools. Maintenance works included paint and thermal insulation of roofs and external walls in addition to other service works,” Bin Ya’rouf said.

DPW implements school maintenance projects periodically according to an annual plan that includes all schools in Sharjah to ensure readiness of these schools. DPW is keen on supporting the trend of changing all schools in Sharjah into model schools by constructing facilities that provide an attractive educational environment for students and teaching staff.
