Labourers file suit against Sun Engineering

ABU DHABI — Workers of an engineering and construction company have been compelled to file a case before the labour court as repeated promises regarding payment of their legal dues were not fulfilled.

The last straw was when representatives of the company failed to attend a meeting called by the labour ministry in a bid to resolve the dispute with labourers.

Attorney and legal researcher Haytham Abdulhamid from “Hisham Al Kuttab Legal Firm” informed that he filed a lawsuit on behalf of 45 workers from Sun Engineering and Cont. Co. (L.L.C) at the Labour Court.

The workers have demanded their legal dues and asked to be sent to their respective home countries after termination of their visas, he said adding, ''The first step is to set a date for the case to be presented before the reconciliation and settlement committee, which is working on solving the dispute between the two parties, and if the committee doesn't reach a compromise solution, the case will be forwarded to the labour court.''

Earlier on March 19 and April 15, the labourers of Sun Engineering had proceeded to the ministry to file a complaint. Later, they went several times to the labour ministry in Abu Dhabi to follow up the complaints bearing the costs of transportation despite their severe financial constraints.
