Lantern to throw light on Ramadan traditions

DUBAI — Dubai the City that Cares 2004 is organising Magic Lantern play during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Magic Lantern summarises all the Ramadan traditions observed throughout the world, educating individuals about their Muslim brothers living across the world and bringing all of them closer to each other during this time.

‘Dubai the City that Cares’ 2004 campaign will run till November 19. Charity organisations participating in the campaign include Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Organisation, Dubai Aid City, Unicef, World Food Programme and Beit El Khair.

Traditions from the countries like Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan; etc will be featured in the Magic Lantern at the shopping malls of Dubai.

The campaign is organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The play talks about a group spectators who travelled to the magical country of Turkey, where the fast is broken with dates, olives, and different kinds of cheeses, in addition to what they call ‘Bida’ in Farsi, an old language that was traditionally used in Turkey.

The spectators will then voyage through the mosque in the Fateh community of Istanbul, and will experience the ‘Sugar Eid’, which demonstrates the tradition and importance of sweets to Muslims during the Eid celebration.

The journey continues on to Iran and then to Malaysia.

The Magic Lantern then ventures into Pakistan, where the government expends a substantial amount for many social Iftars, with an exclusive formal iftar that is organised by the president.
