DUBAI — The Dubai Court of Cassation has rejected an appeal filed by Naser Abdullah Abdulrahim Nori against Al Khaleej Legal Consultants and upheld the verdict of lower courts directing him to pay Dh46,618 along with five per cent interest on the amount with effect from the date of the lawsuit.
The legal firm had filed a case against Naser Abdullah and his father Abdullah Abdulrahim, demanding that they jointly pay the amount of Dh46,618 along with the legal interest for services rendered to them. Naser Abdullah issued a cheque for the amount to the legal firm, but it bounced. He was, hence, found guilty of issuing a dud cheque. His father, who stood guarantee for him, paid the firm Dh10,000, but later both refused to pay the balance amount.
Al Khaleej Consultant moved the Court of First Instance which rejected the case against the father, but asked the son to pay the pending amount plus interest. Naser, however, filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal, which upheld the lower court's verdict. When he took the case to the Court of Cassation, the court rejected his appeal and ordered him to pay the amount, in addition to Dh2,000 towards lawyer's charge, besides ordering the confiscation of the deposit made for the appeal.
