Abu Dhabi - The children's village at Liwa Date Festival has offered children a wide range of activities and competitions,

Creative workshops for children, which have become immensely popular at the Liwa Date Festival, will conclude on Thursday.
The children's village has offered children a wide range of activities and competitions, which included creating a model farm using recycled materials, sculpting one of Liwa's forts using clay, and painting Liwa landscapes on walls and fabrics.
A supervisor of the village said: "Learning about the significance of the palm tree, history of Liwa, the birthplace of the ruling families of Abu Dhabi and Dubai and about the rich Emirati heritage is the focus of this year's Children's Village at the festival," said the supervisor.
"The workshops are suitable for children of all ages, from four years and above. There are no prizes involved, but they get to take their artworks back home, as souvenirs of their visit to the Liwa Dates Festival.
"About 300 children cutting across nationalities from across the country participated daily in our arts and crafts workshops. We ran five workshops including stage shows for the children," added the supervisor.
Quiz programmes, storytelling session and theatre show are being held as part of the stage programmes.
The biggest attraction is the colourful wheel, which makes the children spin, choose questions and answer them to win variety of prizes. Ask the supervisor who wins the prizes, he says, "Of course, girls."
The storytelling sessions enable children know tales of past when people had to travel along the desert in search of food and water, sometimes having nothing but dates to eat, thus making them aware of Emirati heritage. - reporters@khaleejtimes.com
