Dubai - A function was arranged in memory of the man who played a vital role in India's independence movement

Mahatma Gandhi's leadership style and thoughts can never go out of fashion, said a leading businesswoman and philanthropist from India.
Rajashree Birla, chairperson of the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development, India, said India's father of the nation had paved the way for many successful Indians.
She was speaking at a special event organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on the occasion of India's 68th Republic Day. While emphasising on Gandhi's contribution to India's independence and development, she said: "His ideas, principles, values and thoughts can never be a passé, his legacy is even more relevant in today's cultural context."
She also mentioned how Mahatma Gandhi was close to her family and has always inspired with his wisdom. "He was close to my father-in-law and have always motivated us with his right beliefs and virtues. We all have immense respect for him and have always encouraged people, especially youth, to take lessons from this finest man ever in India's history."
The function was arranged in memory of the man who played a vital role in India's independence movement, whose 69th death anniversary is today. The guest of honour for the event, Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, director of Hamriya Freezone Authority and SAIF Zone Authority, Sharjah, was presented with the Arabic version of the biography of Mahatma Gandhi by ICAI, UAE.
Pankaj Mundra, chairman of ICAI Dubai, said: "The relations between India and the UAE are at their prime with the recent visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to India. This was an apt event to commemorate and pay our respects to Mahatma Gandhi and propagate his message of non-violence and peace at a time when this is vital for the Middle East."
During the event, Vasu Shroff, chairman of Regal Group (UAE), was felicitated for receiving an award at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas function in India.
A musical concert by santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma was also held as part of the programme.
