Livestock pens in residential areas removed

“These corals mar the city’s beauty and pose a serious health hazard to the public,” a municipal official told Khaleej Times on condition of anonymity.

He said the civic body has received a number of complaints from the residents that these enclosures produce a foul smell and their owners dump the garbage generated in the street. Some people have been building enclosures next to houses to keep their domestic animals like horses, goats and cows, disregarding public safety and health requirements.

“We are conducting a survey to get the real number and locations of the said enclosures so as to remove all of them,” he said.

The municipality, in cooperation with the Public Works Department, recently conducted a drive against dumping of domestic and industrial waste in streets and open areas.

The civic body impounded the labour cards of more than 50 truck drivers and labourers of construction companies after they were found dumping construction waste in areas not meant for that.

The Municipality and the Public Works Department, under the supervision of Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, have adopted several plans that include landscaping, beautification and building of the streets and roundabouts with state-of-the-art lighting and artistic works in various parts of the emirate.
