The law-enforcement agencies caught the man red-handed while collecting money from lessees without permission from the concerned official government bodies or the IA.

Preliminary investigations showed that the IA had rented the area to a Ras Al Khaimah-based company and the latter leased it to a Sharjah-based one, without the consent of the IA. The Sharjah-based firm was not licensed to operate in Ras Al Khaimah.

It was also discovered that the arrested man was collecting the money by proxy. According to the emirate’s local laws, businesses operating in the other emirates are required to obtain the local authorities’ permission as a pre-requisite to start any business in the local market. It is said that the defendant had been collecting rents that vary from Dh1,500 to Dh2,500, according to the size of each kiosk and its location, in instalments, on daily bases. Some of the stalls were located within the IA premises whereas the rest were outside.

The exhibition included different items like household appliances, electronics, cosmetics, accessories, carpets, ready-made garments, textiles and shoes, etc.
