A 53-year-old Emirati man died after a big chunk of paratha (South Asian flat bread) got stuck in his windpipe while having dinner with his friends at a hotel in Fujairah on Monday.
Major Dr Saeed Al Hassani, Head of Public Relations and Moral Guidance and Information at the Fujairah Police, said the police were informed at 9.30pm by the emergency section of the Dibba Fujairah Hospital. It said that a man, identified as D.M.A, was admitted to the hospital after swallowing a big chunk of paratha in a hotel.
“He was given first aid but the attempts to pull the piece of bread from his throat failed. He was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit in a critical condition. He died later,” he said.
The Public Prosecution, which was informed, ordered the police to hand over the body to his family as no foul play was established, Major Al Hassani said.
