A Chinese man came up with a wicked idea to blackmail a restaurant and dropped a dead rat in his meal while dining. Identified by only his last name Gua, the man brought a dead rat to a popular food chain in China named Haidilao with an intension to grab a free meal.
Last November, Guo reportedly went to a Haidilao outlet with his wife and 20 minutes into the meal, he called the restaurant staff claiming there was dead rat in his hot pot. The restaurant initially offered Guo a voucher for a free meal which he refused to accept. He also turned their offer of 20,000 yuan and instead demanded 5 million yuan in compensation.
The restaurant did not agree to pay up 5 million yuan and called the police. An investigation found Guo guilty of extortion and he was arrested.
According to Guancha News reports quoted in NDTV, at a court hearing on Tuesday, Guo admitted to planting the dead rat in his food with an intention to blackmail the restaurant and extort money and that he later got a "bit greedy". He revealed that he found the dead rat on a visit to his hometown in Henan province which he brought back to Beijing in a bottle.
