Man drowns off Ajman beach, four rescued

The Arab man had gone swimming with two of his friends. When they failed to return, a beachgoer informed the marine rescue unit of the civil defence. The rescue team rushed to the spot and pulled the three men out of the water. But, one of them had already drowned by then.

While the rescue operation was going on, two youngsters aged 12 and 14 got lost in the waters. The rescue team however managed to save the two boys and also provided them with first aid. The four survivors were taken to Khalifa Hospital for treatment.

Sources at the civil defence said they received information at 4.29pm and it took them less than a minute to dispatch the rescue unit deployed along the beach. He added that more men had been stationed along the beach due to the unstable weather.

Most drowning cases occur during this time of the year, due to lack of awareness among beachgoers about choosing the proper time for swimming and not following warnings and instruction signs.

He urged parents to keep an eye on the children while going to the beach especially during unstable weather conditions.
