FUJAIRAH — The Fujairah Court of Appeal on Wednesday upheld a lower court’s verdict sentencing a man to six months in jail for trying to steal equipment from a factory’s premises.
According to the court records, an executive of the factory called the City police station in June and complained that a man of Asian features had made his way to the factory’s yard and tried to steal some equipment.
A police patrol rushed to the scene and arrested the defendant. When interrogated, he said a person called him and asked him to go to the factory and bring him the equipment he would find in the yard. The police investigation could not locate the caller matching the defendant’s descriptions. The CID officers later learnt that the story of the caller was only a figment of his imagination. He was referred to the Public Prosecution which, in turn, sent him to the court to stand trial. The Court of First Instance sentenced him to six months in jail.— salah@khaleejtimes.com
