A passenger travelling from Dubai to Mumbai was arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 60.9 lakh (approx. Dh 0.3million) and two iPhones valued at Rs 120,000 (approx. Dh 6,471 ) at the Mumbai International Airport.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs detained the gold weighing 2.249 kg in its crude form that he was smuggling into India.
Ahamed Thameez had hidden the gold in a specially-made cylindrical hollow iron shaft covered from both the ends which formed the central part of the motor of the portable car washing machine, as reported by India Today. Both the passenger and the accomplice from Mumbai were arrested at the airport under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The gold and two iPhones collectively valued at Rs 6,211,912. The passenger has admitted knowledge, ownership, possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the said gold and iPhone, which were being smuggled into India without payment of proper customs duty and in contravention of the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, the story reported. 

Thameez said the gold and iPhone belonged to someone else and he was carrying the goods to make a huge profit. He was supposed to hand them over to another person named Irshad in Mumbai, who has also been arrested.
