Sharjah Police also arrested the alleged killer of the Asian woman within 12 hours after the body was found. Brigadier Saleh Ali Al Mutawa, Director-General of Sharjah Police, said police received a report at around 11.50am on Thursday that waste collection workers of Sharjah Municipality had found a human head. Police moved immediately to investigate the case and soon found the other human remains at the same site. The human remains belonged to a female.
Brig. Mutawa said that two teams of criminal investigation personnel were formed to investigate the case and trace the murderer.
He said it was a daunting task to find out the identity of the victim herself as the body was cut into pieces.
As investigations and the search for the killer continued, police found a large black bag containing pieces of sponge and a smaller bag that contained some shredded papers and some receipts.
These items helped police find the workplace of the woman and investigations showed that she did not report to work for some time.
The woman was found to be from a non-Arab Asian origin. She was identified by another Asian woman who said the victim was staying with her at the same residence almost a year ago and that she left that residence.
Investigations in the same neighbourhood led the police to a man who knew the victim very well.
The man told police about the residence of the woman.
Police found the room of the woman in a chaotic state with other criminal evidence that raised many questions and suspicions.
On interrogation, the man who lived in the same home denied any connection with the crime. However, confronted with evidence, he confessed to the charges of killing the woman and cutting her into pieces. He claimed that he did so because the woman had committed acts of blasphemy.
Police referred the man to the public prosecution for charges to be filed against him. Police declined to identity the alleged killer or the victim.
"This is a crime alien to our society and contradicts the human and moral values of Islam that call for love, peace and mercy, rejecting any offence against human beings and their dignity," Brig. Mutawa said, adding "we have to take all the necessary measures to protect the UAE against these alien crimes".
He lauded the efforts of Sharjah Police in uncovering details of the heinous crime.
"We are convinced that collective efforts are the key to curb any crime, and behind us we have the support of the Interior Ministry represented by Staff Lieutenant-General Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Badi, and Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Under-Secretary of the Interior Ministry.
"All investigation tools have been made available to rid the society of the evils of criminals," Brig. Mutawa noted.
The police chief also praised the efforts of Sharjah Municipality workers whose assistance was instrumental in finding one part of the woman's body.
He said that demonstrated a high level of co-operation as security is the responsibility of all. He said cooperation with the public was an important element in preserving security.
He said the sense of security should be developed in all members of society so that they can contribute to the overall security of society.
The police chief also urged the public to provide police with all information that they believe could be useful in the prevention of crime.
He pledged that such information would be dealt with in a confidential manner, thus strengthening the bridges of cooperation with the public and deepening the bonds of interaction with them, in the interest of the security, safety and stability of society.
