‘Many people being affected by crises’

ABU DHABI — A two-day workshop on family reunion and search for missing people began at the Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

The workshop is being organised by the UAE Red Crescent Authority in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Dr Saleh Mousa Al Taee, secretary-general of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, in his inaugural speech on behalf of Khalifa Nasser Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Board of the Authority, said many people and families are being affected by crises and disasters around the world today. The situation demands that workers in the humanitarian field must have special skills to help the victims, especially families, to cope with the tragedy.

A number of working papers, submitted by the Board of the UAE Red Crescent Authority and the ICRC on the legal grounds of family reunion and search for those missing as a result of crises and disasters, are being discussed at the workshop.

On the first day yesterday, the workshop focused on the optimum use of available means and tools and the administrative procedures to be followed in search of missing persons and their reunion with the families.

A number of officials and volunteers participated in the workshop.
