Mawaqif extended to two more areas in Abu Dhabi

The two locations will provide a total of 3,729 parking bays to residents.

The newly implemented area falls between Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street (Airport road) and Al Karama Street, and Delma Street and Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Street with a total of 2,055 parking bays. The second area is located between East Road and Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street (Airport road), Delma Street and Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Street with a total of 1,674 parking bays.

The service will be enforced from 8am to 10pm from Saturdays to Thursdays, at a rate of Dh3 per hour for premium parking (identified by turquoise and white curbstones) with a maximum stay of four hours, and Dh2 per hour or Dh15 per day for standard parking (identified by turquoise and black curbstones).

In line with other paid parking services, spaces will be free of charge during official holidays.

Fines, however, will be applied to cars that are parked illegally at any time. The implementation of Mawaqif parking management programme in new areas follows a three phase approach:

The first phase is a preparatory period and involves creating awareness for people in the new area about the programme.

A trial period is then carried out followed by the actual implementation of the paid parking, including the issuing of fines in case of violations. Residents can apply for electronic permits at the Mawaqif customer service centres.

These permits allow users to park in any available standard parking bay in the area where they reside. They will be exempted from paying by hourly or daily tariffs. com

The electronic permit is available to owners or tenants and their first kin residing with them (mother, father, spouse and children) with a maximum of two permits per household. Each permit is sector and vehicle specific.

The documents required to obtain the resident permit include: passport copy with valid residency visa, lease of contract or residency ownership proof, recent electricity bill, vehicle ownership, relationship proof for the vehicle owner if different from the tenancy contract.

Annual fees for the resident permits are Dh800 for the first vehicle and Dh1,200 for the second vehicle. Verification and processing of resident permits, takes a minimum of three working days.
