Medical records to go Online

Patients and physicians will be able to check medical records online, both locally and abroad once the DHA's Electronic Medical Records system goes live in 2012.

The system, launched byDubai Health Authority at the Arab Health Conference and Exhibition on Monday, will store detailed patient data for both private and government hospitals in future.

Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director General of the DHA, provided an overview of the authority’s projects to His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Ministerof the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, who visited the DHA stand during their tour of the congress.

“The electronic system will be able to compile complete patient information such as history, allergies, prescriptions and diagnostic test results,” said the director general.

“The system will provide one clinical data depository where all patient information is stored. The eventual aim is use this system across Dubai, in both private and public hospitals. However, initially we will use it for the DHA hospitals and health clinics,” he added.

Besides, the authority has also launched a picture archiving system for all DHA hospitals that has cut patient waiting time by five days.

“Diagnostic imaging systems are stored electronically and accessed by doctors and patients within an hour as compared to their availability up to seven days earlier,” said Al Murooshid.

Al Murooshid also provided an overview of the progress made in the Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital project.

Al Jalila bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Hospital was ordered to be built as a gift to the children of the UAE. Al Murooshid said that the project is being implemented on a priority basis to benefit the children of the UAE and the region “As per your vision, it will be built as the state-of-the-art paediatric hospital to serve the children of Dubai and the region and provide them the latest medical care available,” he explained to Shaikh Mohammed.
