Regional governmental authorities and private healthcare organisations will be participating at this major event from September 22-24. The conference will discuss the international importance of the Middle East and Gulf states in this specialised and growing concern of the global healthcare sector.

“Medical tourism is a growing trend across the world and this phenomenon is encouraging healthcare bodies to develop a highly standardised regulation system to improve and maintain the quality of health and healthcare,” said Laila Al Jassmi, CEO, Health Policy and Strategy Sector at Dubai Health Authority, which will participate at the congress.

“Gulf states such as the UAE have highly advanced healthcare services and provide a great strategic location to help facilitate healthcare travel. these are just two of the reasons why Dubai is playing an increasingly important role in medical tourism,” she added.

Regional players, which will attend the congress, include delegates and representatives from Jordon, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, and Lebanon. The gathering is the largest in the annual healthcare travel calendar and aims to bring together government officials and private healthcare providers to help develop strategies that will facilitate both inbound and outbound medical tourism. The representatives will be able to share information and they will be briefed on the latest advances in the sector.

“The Middle East plays an important role in global healthcare travel, as states in this part of the world are making major investment and upgrading their infrastructure to provide a first class service for this sector of the healthcare market, ” said Renée-Marie Stephano, President of the Medical Tourism Association and editor of the Medical Tourism magazine. “There are many opportunities that are presenting themselves and governments are collaborating well with the private sector to maximise this potential,” she added.

Nasser Al Budoor, Director Internal Relations Health Affairs, Ministry of Health UAE and GCC Health Council Member, was keen to state the benefits of the congress. “This is our second year of participating at this event and we are impressed with the progressive topics that are under discussion,” he said. “It is clear to see the Medical Tourism Association’s dedication to the industry and their members’ efforts in gathering stakeholders from all regions across the world to share and exchange ideas. We are encouraging more GCC healthcare organisations to participate,” he added.
