Merit certificates for CBSE top scorers

DUBAI-The Gulf Council for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has for the first time decided to award merit certificates, within the next two months, to all the top scorers of the recently held CBSE examinations. This is the first time any council in the world has taken the initiative to recognise the efforts of CBSE students.

As per the decision, the overall Grade XII Gulf toppers in Science, Arts (Humanities) and Commerce and individual toppers of each subject in the Grade X and XII exams will be honoured. There are about 110 CBSE schools in the Gulf.

The decision follows a recent meeting of the Executive Committee of the Gulf Council at the Indian School Muscat held earlier this week and presided over by MC Sebastian, chairman of the Council of CBSE Schools in the Gulf and principal of Al Yasmin International School, Riyadh.

MC Sebastian, told Khaleej Times on the phone, “This is the first time we have taken the initiative to honour the students.

The Convener of each GCC country has been given the responsibility of collecting all the data and submitting information on the toppers with in the next seven days. We are trying to get the accurate data and the students will be awarded within the next two months.”

The Gulf Council also expressed disappointment in the evaluation of Grade X English Grade XII Economics. “The overall performance this year was better than last year but the evaluation of these two subjects was rather disappointing,” he said.

The first event written constitution for the Gulf Council has been printed and released in Oman. “All school principals in the Gulf will have a copy soon,” he noted.

Principals, on the other hand, in the UAE welcomed this decision. Aziz Akhtar, Executive Principal of Our Own Indian School, said, “Recognising the academic success is good and encouraging. This is the first time the council has decided to do this. It is a step in the right direction.”
