The metro trains will be running on these viaducts or platforms. The last span was set up in Al Garhoud opposite Al Bustan Hotel.

The first viaduct superstructure was completed in November 2006 in the Al Quoz area.

"In all, 10 launching girders were brought in to work using the span–by-span erection method. These girders were used to set up these spans," said Adnan Hammadi, Director of Rail Construction Projects at the RTA.

The Red Line of the metro will be operational from September next year.

The trains will run mainly on viaducts along Shaikh Zayed Road from Jebel Ali to BurJuman in Bur Dubai, under Dubai Creek to Union Square in Deira, and on to Dubai International Airport and beyond.

The construction of the Red Line started in August 2005 at a total cost of Dh9.4 billion. The trains will ply on the Red Line every 3.45 minutes during peak hours and 7 minutes during off-peak hours.

The Green, Purple and Blue Lines will be completed by 2012.
