The National Investigation Agency in India has discovered a plot by Indian terror operatives to spark riots during the month of Ramadan in the Indian city of Hyderabad.
The operatives who were allegedly in touch with their Daesh handlers, had planned to plant beef inside Hyderabad's Bhagyalakshmi temple, according to the Times of India. There was also a plan to trigger powerful blasts targeting VVIPs in the city.
"They had gathered explosives to fabricate around 30-40 improvised explosive devices [IEDs] on short notice. They had tested the IEDs as well. The action could have happened on Wednesday itself," an NIA officer said.
The conversations which were intercepted by the investigative agency will be used as evidence against the youths - five of whom were arrested - in court, Hindustan Times reported.
"The six detained persons were released and summoned again today (Thursday) afternoon for further examination. Their role is being scrutinised," the NIA official told news agency IANS.
Investigators recovered INR15 lakh in cash, 40 cell phones, 32 SIM cards and six laptops after the busting the terror cell on Wednesday.
The security agency has now sounded a high alert at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, as well, and personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force and Rapid Action Force were deployed.
