Minister of Education Hanif Hassan replied that the complaints were only about Mathematics and Physics papers and not all subjects.
The Ministry of Education changed the examination system to improve the standard of the students passing the exams before their admission to universities. Dr Hassan said the new examination system would not allow students to rely on the conventional way of memorising answers, rather it would examines their intellectual capacity.
He said the complaints were also due to the presence ofaround 4,000 external students (who study from home) besides the adult education students.
The ministry is now preparing two types of examination papers in all subjects so that students, who are trained only in the conventional model, gain experience.
The minister said the media exaggerated the concerns of the students in their reports.
Hawaidan, who raised the question, said the media attention was due to the imbalanced system being implemented by the ministry, which has only helped in increasing the worries of the families.
He added that the success rate among students in the examinations declined by 50 per cent, which means more students will not be able to join colleges due to their poor marks in the first semester.
Hawaidan urged the ministry to conduct more workshops to train students in the new system of examinations.
