Missing taxi driver killed in accident

DUBAI — Mystery surrounding the disappearance of Ismail Ansari, a 61-year-old Indian taxi driver, was unveiled yesterday after the Police in Abu Dhabi informed relatives that he had died in a road accident in Shahama.

Ismail, went missing on Saturday morning after picking up two passengers for a trip to Abu Dhabi from Umm Al Quwain.

According to Abu Dhabi Police, Ismail’s taxi was hit by a car in Shahama area while he was on his way back to Umm Al Quwain from Abu Dhabi after dropping the passengers. “A car driven by an Arab national collided with Ismail’s taxi and he died on the spot. The body was kept in the morgue of Rehab Hospital in Shahama and later shifted to Central Hospital in Abu Dhabi,” the report said.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Dawood Babu, a relative of the deceased said, “I received a call from Umm Al Quwain police station on Wednesday night informing that an unidentified body is kept in Central Hospital in Abu Dhabi. Since, I was in a desperate search for Ismail, I rushed to Abu Dhabi and identified the body."

"I informed the family about the tragedy. They are in a state of shock. Now, I am trying to repatriate the body as early as possible. I hope that the authorities would release the body soon after completing the legal formalities," he added.

Ismail had been living in the UAE for the past 37 years and worked as a taxi driver for 25 years. He is survived by a wife and two children who live in Kerala.
