Mobile hospital to treat over 6,000 for free in Sharjah

SHARJAH - With a target to offer free health check-ups to over 6,000 people during the next two months, the Emirates International Mobile Hospital, Enaya opened its doors to the residents of Sharjah on Thursday. Officials said the aim was to spread health awareness to over a million people.

Dr Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim, UAE Minister of Health officially opened the hospital’s field unit at its location at Al Qasba. “Since it was launched by Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the mobile hospital has proved its success locally and internationally,” he said during the opening.

The mobile hospital will roam around the emirate visiting schools, government offices, elderly homes as well as residential areas and offer free heart, kidney and liver checkups explained Dr Adel Al Shameri, Heart Surgeon, CEO of Zayed Cares Initiative and Chief of UAE Heart Association.

“A state-of-the-art laboratory will also offer blood checks for diabetes and cholesterol,” he said. Other services include family medicine and pediatrics.

The field hospital, that has been operational for a couple of weeks, has already conducted tests on 153 people, both UAE nationals and expatriates and will remain open from 9am to 2pm. The mobile hospital will offer services from 6 to 10pm.

“We hope to train more than 200 administrative, medical and technical staff in the field of emergency relief response, heart resuscitation and patients’ care,” said Dr Al Shameri.

While all surgical cases will be handled by the team of the Emirates Mobile Hospital, cases will also be transferred to government hospitals in Sharjah including Al Qassimi and Kuwaiti Hospitals for follow ups. “The mobile hospital will receive all visitors and provide tests for all specialisations for free. All cases that need surgical intervention will be done by the medical team of the mobile hospital in the hospitals of both public and private sectors,” explained Khadeem Al Deraai, Head of the Emirates International Mobile Hospital.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Saqer Al Qassimi, Assistant Undersecretary and Director of Sharjah Medical District said that hospitals in the emirate are ready to receive any transferred cases.The hospital has earlier offered medical checkups to residents in Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Ajman before making its fourth stop in Sharjah. Internationally, the hospital has offered its services in countries including Pakistan, Bosnia, Morocco and Sudan.

The hospital is being supported by the UAE Heart Association in partnership with the Ministry of Health (Sharjah Medical District), Sharjah Education Zone, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Media Corporation and Shurook.
