MoE move to stop transfer of teachers to non-teaching jobs

DUBAI — The Ministry of Education is considering scrapping of “unwanted” posts of female laboratory officers, secretaries and librarians. This is to stop the practice of transferring teachers to administrative jobs.

Many female teachers have been transferred to secretarial and administrative jobs on the orders of two MoE officials, Khaleej Times has learnt.

Despite a desperate need for female teachers, at least three female science and language teachers have been forced out of their jobs and transferred to non-teaching positions on the orders of MoE undersecretary Dr. Jamal Al Mohiri, and his deputy, Mohammed bin Hindi, it was claimed yesterday.

The teachers, all highly qualified, were instead given secretarial or administrative positions. Ministry sources have told the Khaleej Times that all the demotions were done without valid reasons and against the wishes of the school boards involved.

In one case Bin Hindi ordered the transfer of Maisoon Mohammed Hamad, a female chemistry teacher at Zabeel Secondary Education School, to the post of librarian in the same Zonal education.

The demotion was ordered despite the Dubai Educational Zone telling Bin Hindi it had no need for new librarians. Sources say Bin Hindi also failed to inform the personnel affairs committee of his decision.

Similarly, Dr. Mohiri issued an order on October 31, transferring teacher Khawla Rashid to work as librarian at the Al Khawaneej branch of the Dubai Women Association. Again, the zonal board informed Dr. Mohri by letter there was no vacant post for a librarian at either the Khawanmeej or Al Hamtriyya library.

Other recent orders issued by Dr. Mohiri include promoting Aliaa Hamad, a librarian appointed in the academic year 2003-2004, to the post of Administrator at the Womens’ Association. The decision caused outrage among employees of Dubai educational Zone.
