Speaking to Khaleej Times yesterday, Dr Hawi said that it was part of the ministry’s plans to expand the School of Nursing as well.

“To encourage recruitment of more male nurses, the ministry will also revise salary structures as part of the incentives,” he said. All plans were still in the decision stages and had not been implemented yet, he added.

Meanwhile, briefing on the MoH’s plans on health projects for the year 2006, Dr Hawi said that projects amounting to Dh104 million had been earmarked for the Northern Emirates.

Outlining the plans for the impending projects, he said: “The Department of Public Works has undertaken two projects including two health centres in Ajman which include dental centre that is being constructed at a cost of Dh8 million and a centre for preventive medicine that will be completed at cost of Dh9 million.”

“These projects are still in the initial phases and all details, including the designs, will be decided later,” he said.

He also said that tenders will be invited for the projects that will be completed by mid of this year. He also said that expansion of the gynaecology department in Khalifa Hospital in Ajman with Dh40 million was also planned, while the same departments in Julphar Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah were planned for Dh5 million and in Fujairah for Dh50 million.
