Mohammed opens Dubai Drydocks extension

DUBAI — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, stressed yesterday that the UAE had entered a new phase of economic and industrial development with the building and commissioning of giant ships and oil tankers in Dubai Drydocks.

Shaikh Mohammed made his remarks as he inaugurated the new extension of Dubai Drydocks. The most recent extension features a 5th dry dock for maintenance and overhaul of ships and converting oil tankers to commercial ships. The new dry dock is the world’s first facility to build giant ships up to one million tonnes, said Sultan bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai Ports.
