Al Zahmi was attending the ‘Open Day’, where he met applicants, employers, PROs and workers who had come with their grievances to settle.
Al Zahmi explained to the owners of firms that the ministry would review their applications for reducing or waiving off the fines.
Some of these owners/PROs were fined for forcing their workers to work during the noon-break hours in the last summer season, Al Zahmi said. “We cannot waive off or reduce the fines in these cases because the ministerial decision was clear in this respect,” he added.
He, however, said that fines could be reduced in cases of simple violations like the sponsor or PRO forgetting to renew the labour cards of staff for two-three months.
