Monodrama Festival Begins 
in Fujairah

FUJAIRAH — His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah,inaugurated the fourth Fujairah International Monodrama Festival at the International Tennis Stadium here on Thursday evening. The event was also attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah.

A play titled ‘Fujairah… a theatre and love’ scripted and directed by Mahir Al Salibi and acted by Syria-based Semah theatre and dance troupe was staged on the first day.

A total of 15 theatre works are being staged at the festival which will conclude on January22.Over 250 playwrights,directors and actors representing 42 Arab and foreign countries are participating.

Mohamad Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Ruler’s Court who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority and head of the festival, highlighted the great consideration that the UAE gives to the cultural identity.

The fourth edition of the festival opens up the horizonsfor playwrights and actors beyond this particular stage to showcase their talent. “Theatre is a game of wise and prudent people.” he said.

Bilal al Badour, Executive Director of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, underlined the ministry’s keenness, in line with the UAE general strategy, to raise cultural awareness and enrich communication.

The plays are being staged in Dibba Fujairah venues everyday.
