More Transparency for Internet Users as Etisalat, du Comply with New Policy

DUBAI— Internet end users will enjoy enhanced transparency and consumer welfare as both licensed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the UAE have complied with the directives of the Internet Access Management (IAM) policy.

This was stated by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority on their web sites.

“We are pleased that both licensed UAE ISPs, Etisalat and du, have complied with the directives of the TRA IAM Policy by establishing a process for the Internet end users to place their comments, views, complaints, suggestions and messages with respect to the IAM and its procedure,” stated Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Board Member and Director General.

“For transparency, however, the ISPs were asked to publish the Prohibited Content Categories on their web sites to inform the end users about the reasons behind blocking certain web sites,” Al Ghanim added.

The TRA has organised a workshop for both ISPs, providing them with the guidelines of this IAM policy.

Since the release of the IAM by TRA, around one thousand web sites have been unblocked due to various reasons, where such an unblocked number constitutes around 25 per cent of the formerly blocked web sites.
