The timer signals start the number countdown when the traffic light is red and indicate to the motorists the time left for the green light to come on. The timer signals were installed by Ajman municipality in coordination with Ajman Traffic and license department as part of its developmental plans which aimed at providing better services to the public in the emirate.

Thameem Yousif, a motorist in Ajman said that the electronic timer is very helpful for the commuters and also helps a great deal in preventing accidents near traffic lights. “I hope this facility will be implemented in all the emirates to make life easy for the public.”

Hani Gulam, another motorist said that this advanced facility implemented by Ajman municipality is really good, as it helps the stressed out motorists to know how long they need to stop at the signal. It also minimises accidents at the signals by signalling speeding motorists to slow down when they realise that time is up for the red light following the number countdown on the timer.

Khalifah Al Awadi, also a motorist said he enjoys watching the timer and counts the number waiting at the red light. He adds that he is very impressed by such advanced technology installed on all roads in Ajman to facilitate the traffic flow and reduce the stress of the motorists.

Saif Salim Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of Ajman Municipality said that the municipality under the instructions of Shaikh Rashid A Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning decided to import such timers and install them on all roads in Ajman to cope with rapid development of the emirate in terms of real estate and constructions.

He said the municipality is making great efforts to contribute to the infrastructure development to help attract the large number of investors to boost the local economy.

The timers were first tested by the municipality at one of the signals, after they proved their success in easing traffic movement and facilitating driving.

According to Ali Al Matroushi, Head of the accident and traffic section at Ajman traffic and license Department, the timers have helped a great deal in minimise traffic accidents and organising the traffic as well as reducing the cases of motorists jumping red lights.
